The establishment of technical high schools as a main branch of the Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Institute (ADVETI) reflects the sincere interest of the wise leadership of the UAE in education for all of its citizens. It also reflects that the state needs national youth trained in the technical, vocational and technological fields.
VISION To be the leading provider of skilled UAE nationals for the local market.
MISSION: To empower the UAE youth with the competencies needed for employability and life-long learning.
A technical high school is a one of a kind chance for young men and women to complete their education and professional training that will qualify them to take part in developing vocational and technological plans and programs for entities focused on technical, technological and vocational projects. This is a chance for the students to get a job after graduation.
The Secondary Technical Schools (STS) schools have been established to provide young Emiratis with a senior high school education that has a focus on technical and technology education. In doing so, STS schools provide students with an alternative choice to government and private schools and the Applied Technical High Schools (ATHS) which are run by the Institute of Applied Technology (IAT).
The STS schools take students who have successfully completed the Ministry of Education (MoE) Grade 9 Certificate and put them through Grades 10, 11 and 12. Enrolment in STS schools is conditional on passing an entrance test in English and Mathematics and, as the diagram below indicates, students can enter STS schools from government, private or other schools as long as they meet the entry requirements.
